Usually, when you think about Ibiza, your mind immediately goes to the party-lifestyle and cocktails. Parties are always around in the island. But there is another side of the island. The Pituosa (as Ibiza is also called) has some of the best beaches in Spain, with dozens of tiny coves to discover, not to mention stylish hotels, beautiful villas and great food. Let’s see what type of activities you can do, and which are the best beaches to visit if you have planned a family trip in the famous Balearic island.

Jeep Safaris

Explore the natural landscape of the island with a Jeep that will drive you not only along the coasts but also in the inner part of the island. You will go through off-road tracks, enjoying the ride while learning a lot about birds, animals, plants and the traditional life of the island along the way.

Best for: Good plan on a cloudy day for kids of any age over six.

Cave Tours

In the cliffs near Port de Sant Miguel on the north coast you will find the Can Marça caves, which are thought to date back around 100,000 years. More recently, smugglers used the secret grottoes to hide their contraband. The guided tour ends with a light show. Dedicate a day of your vacation to this trip, starting from San Antonio with a boat towards the astounding caves, and spend the afternoon on the beach before the return voyage.

Best for: all ages, as long as you’re prepared to clamber around.

Coastal Cycling

Enjoy a guided tour with bikes along the coastal path from Santa Eulalia to Cala Nova beach (19 km approximately). Kids will enjoy riding their own bike or riding on a trailer. Child seats are also available. The trip covers also a countryside path, where you will pass through farms and you will stop at an 18th-century olive mill. A quick swim at the beach is also included in the trip.

Best for: Kids under 14s.

Water Park Fun

You can enjoy a really funny day at Aguamar water park, located in Playa d’en Bossa. It is easy to reach with a car or by bus from Ibiza Town. There you will find slides, chutes and tubes of all kind, pools for all ages, play areas, and a lot of sunbeds ideal for relaxation. In the park there are restaurants available, but it is also possible to bring your own food and have a picnic in one of the many picnic areas. You also have the possibility to leave for a few hours and return, if you want to enjoy the splendid beach!

Best for: Kids under 10s.

Best Family Beaches

Cala Comte

Turquoise, clear and shallow waters, ideal for children. The beach consists of two stretches of sand, one located behind a rocky coastline and the other one is formed of sand dunes. On the opposite side of the beach, just in front of you, you can admire the island of es Bosc.

Cala Vadella

On the road, before arriving at the cala, you will find a viewpoint on your right. You should definitely stop there and take some really spectacular photos! The beach is quite narrow and protected. The sand is very fine and white. At the two sides of the beach there are rock formations and the water is really shallow and clean. This is another great beach suitable for children.

Ses Salinas

You cannot miss this beach with its extraordinary clear sea and its magnificent sunset. It is one of the most famous beaches in Ibiza. This half-moon shaped cala is located in the southern area of the island and is part of the Ses Salinas Natural Park. There you can find services, restaurants and trendy bars as well as a free parking but with limited space!
