Ibiza attracts over three million people each year and continues to be synonymous with golden days and forever summers. Love, freedom, unity, and the place to express yourself in whatever shape and form that may be, all contribute to Ibiza’s unique allure. Can we go back already? For those of you who haven’t heard the term chiringuito, it is a Spanish term used to refer to a particular open air space that serves food and drinks, originating from the seaside environments of the Mediterranean Spanish coasts. Chiringuitos are widespread on beaches and other touristic areas in the typical form of wooden, temporary and removable structures. The use of the term chiringuito has spread to indicate also restaurants, mainly on the beach. What once started as simple tiny shacks, have turned into larger and fancier bars.

Below you can find 5 must-see chiringuitos during your stay in the island of Ibiza.

Chirincana

Chirincana Ibiza is the Chiringuito of the free Ibiza, the Authentic Ibiza. At the tip of Cala Martina, the only place in the Santa Eulalia area where you can contemplate the sunset in a 100% Ibicenco environment. The Chirincana is one of the most unique bars you’ll find in Ibiza, drawing in a crowd of eclectic people that come together and create a great vibe to be in. Artists are inspired and encouraged to share their talent, so you’ll always be surrounded by live music. This place doesn’t only serve drinks. Fresh and healthy breakfasts with extraordinary views and food are served all day. The menu of Chirincana Ibiza is influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine with many vegan and vegetarian options. Spend a lovely afternoon at Chirincana in order to eat, drink, enjoy live entertainment and dance the night away!

El Chiringuito

This is a venue where attention to detail is king. It's a place you can enjoy under sunlight or moonlight in equal measure - somewhere you can absorb good vibes all day long. The restaurant boasts a fantastic beachfront location on Europe's second ever nudist beach, Es Cavallet - it is not strictly nudist though, everyone dresses - or undresses - as they like. You can relax with views to the sea in front of you, Dalt Vila to the left and the stunning island of Formentera to the right. Even the drive through the salt flats of Salinas is part of the experience. El Chiringuito offers all you need for a full day's visit if you wish. The excellent on-site restaurant offers menus from breakfast right through to lunch or late night snacks with produce carefully prepared and sourced locally. Of course with a great seafront location excellent fish dishes are on offer, with pasta and meat dishes also available. This place isn’t open as late as Chirincana, so don’t plan your night only at this place if you want to be out till late. The good news for all the parents out there is that there is the little chiringuito area that has all of the toys and necessities that your kids could possibly want!

Cotton Beach Club

A traditionally whitewashed slice of perfection dropped atop the cliffs overlooking the beautiful Cala Tarida on Ibiza's southwest coast, Cotton Beach Club is one of the premier locations to enjoy Ibiza's much loved sunsets, a delicious lunch or a quick cocktail. All material within the venue is 100% cotton, hence the name, and the design is stunning. White woods, metals, materials... everywhere, which makes for a beautiful image when set against blue and aqua hues of the sea and sky in the background. Chic furnishings and stylish day beds, if you visit the Cotton Beach Club you can be assured of a relaxing experience filled with great music, excellent food and refreshing drinks. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. Fish, of course, hamburgers, pasta, meats and of course, amazing desserts. In an effort to constantly improve food service, members of the team often take trips around the world to look for inspiration, and this is reflected in the food and wine menus. Not that you needed an excuse to visit Cala Tarida, but surely with the addition of Cotton Beach Club now you have plenty of reasons to tick this one off your Ibiza 'to do' list.

Chiringuito

A hidden gem and firm favourite with islanders, Chiringuito is a chic beachside restaurant at Cala Gracioneta in San Antonio, Ibiza. Although a little off the beaten track, this venue is definitely worth a trip. The vibe is ambient yet relaxed – perfect for laidback people watching, from one of the multiple pretty terraces. Its main attraction are its cocktails that let you experience all types of exotic flavours. A beautiful place to prepare for one of Ibiza’s legendary nights, or gently recover from the next day.

Kumharas

Another chiringuito in the San Antonio Bay area is Kumharas, a spiritual little hotspot that undoubtedly takes the prize for the best bar in San Antonio Bay. It oozes calming vibes and has a crowd to match, with everyone congregating here come dusk to watch the sun in its final moments of glory, all while sipping on a sparkling cocktail. It's made up of three different hangout spots - a chill-out area, a lounge and a restaurant, with the latter serving up a magical fusion of world flavours that cause all kinds of sensations for your palette. This is a place to kick-back, forget your worries and marvel at the infinite sky.
