D’en Valls Tower

dirk annuss In the territorial division of Sant Carles de Peralta you can find the d’en Valls tower. Located near Canal d’en Martí, otherwise known as Pou des Lleó, access is possible from the main road, although the final part needs to be done on foot. This tower is part of the defensive towers of the eighteenth century, it was built as a complement for the defense of the city of Dalt Vila. The date of completion of the work goes back to 1763, though it had to be rebuilt after an explosion of its powder. This explosion is well documented and now form part of the local legends. The official version of the supervisors of the tower ensures that in a stormy night, as they left after seeing the lights of a boat,a lightning struck the gunpowder and blew up. Legend has it that in reality it was two young men, and that some neighbour, annoyed by their behaviour, retaliated by setting fire to the powder. (photo credits: D.Annuss – J.C.Fajardo)
